What they don’t actually tell you about Chronic Fatigue.

Hey!

Welcome back to this week’s blog!

So this week, let’s talk about Fitness & Chronic Fatigue.

Firstly. Chronic Fatigue is Myalgic encephalomyelitis or chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) – NHS

This is so much more than just being tired.

These are the 4 main symptoms of Chronic Fatigue (as stated by the NHS website)

  • Feeling extremely tired all the time (fatigue), which can make daily activities like taking a shower, or going to work or school, difficult
  • Sleep problems, including insomnia, sleeping too much, feeling like you have not slept properly and feeling exhausted or stiff when you wake up
  • Problems with thinking, concentration and memory (brain fog) symptoms getting worse after physical or mental activity, and possibly taking weeks to get better

In my coaching experience I found that with CFS it heightens anxiety levels and as such causes further stress. Which again can exacerbate levels of CFS. So as you can see it is a continuous cycle.

When working with people with CFS one of the things we focus on massively is energy input VS energy output.

Energy in = Sleep & Food.

Energy out = Well, thats kinda self explanatory right!?

Tracking your sleep for 2-4 weeks can really highlight your energy levels and as such then helps us understand more on the food choices taken.

This is something really common, with alot of people not just those with CFS.

You have a bad nights sleep, over consume caffeine, have lots of snacks for that ‘kick’… you get to bed and youre hungry and probably still wired from all the caffeine you have a bad nights sleep…. It continues!

So tracking your sleep, your habits before bed and your morning routine really will dictate how you sleep…. This is called sleep hygiene.

Something that always sounds crazy is adding in exercise.

‘ Why would I exercise?! I’m already zapped ‘

20-30 mins of movement per day will GIVE YOU MORE ENERGY!!

I won’t bore you with the science behind it but getting movement in will energise you and will massively help with cognitive function too.

Don’t believe me?

I dare you to try it.
