Dry Jan, is it actually worth it?

Mind Your Fitness Logo

I have been sober for over 5 years now.

It was one of the best decisions I made, I actually gave up booze because of 2 reasons.

  1. Me, Alcohol and PTSD were a disgusting cocktail.
  2. My liver disease wouldn’t have appreciated the alcohol intake.

Alcohol and trauma never are great together, in my personal experience and working with you lovely bunch, I found, it heightens anger, emotions and decision making. Now these are factors that typically get brought up when alcohol is in question, but think of those emotions and feelings and magnify by x1000.

I have made this statement to EVERYONE that told me before new years eve and those after.

If you drank past midnight on 31/12/2025, you haven’t started the new year ‘dry’ and you aren’t really completing ‘ dry January ‘.

Now, that might not come across as very positive and could be seen as negative, which I am ok with. And the reason I am ok with it, is because it’s factual.

If you want to start the new year alcohol free then you shouldn’t be going into a new year still consuming alcohol and or drunk…. Kinda defeats the objective right?!

How you then respond to that is entirely up to you… you can go a few ways:

  • Think, right! I am going to smash it now. Really focus on being sober, either for good or a period of time longer than Jan… Or maybe even a week.
  • You might think, SACK it, damage has been done… I am just going to keep on boozing.

Either way, it doesn’t matter what you choose to do.

What matters is that you can be comfortable with the decision and stand by it. Not to appease anyone else other than yourself.

However,

If you do make a decision to reduce your alcohol intake then some of the things you can look forward to are:

  • Improved sleep
  • Better mood
  • Increased energy levels
  • Clearer mind
  • Focus
  • Higher libido
  • Better food choices
  • NO HANGOVERS

I mean they are just a few, there are literally loads.

Why don’t you try and reduce your alcohol intake and see how you feel.
