10 positives for being out in nature for your mental health.

Embracing Nature, YES even in the Cold.
Yes its cold.
Its wet.
GRIM, to say the least.
But get your hat, gloves, scarves, get it all on!
Get outside for your steps and your mental health.
Walking in nature is calming, being in and amongst the trees and mud hits differently.
The smell in the air, the texture of the trees.
Climb over stuff, duck under, do that little dad dance going down a hill.

Being outside is just amazing!

I saw a quote recently as well…… I will butcher it, but it went along the lines of :

“ We used to use the internet to escape from reality, now we use nature to escape the internet “.

Ironic, as I am writing a blog though and being published on the internet!

Here are 10 positives for being out in nature:

  • Reduces Stress: Walking in nature can lower cortisol levels, the hormone associated with stress, helping you feel more relaxed and at ease.
  • Boosts Mood: Exposure to natural environments can trigger the release of endorphins, which improve mood and decrease feelings of anxiety or depression.
  • Enhances Creativity: Walking in nature can spark creativity by giving your brain a break from structured thinking and allowing new ideas to flow.
  • Improves Cognitive Function: Studies show that spending time in nature can enhance focus, attention, and memory, providing mental clarity.
  • Promotes Mindfulness: Nature walks encourage mindfulness, helping you stay present in the moment and practice grounding techniques.
  • Increases Physical Activity: Walking outdoors helps maintain physical health, which is closely linked to better mental well-being and reduced risk of mental health issues.
  • Encourages Social Interaction: Taking walks with friends, family, or pets provides valuable social time, which is essential for reducing loneliness and fostering a sense of connection.
  • Reduces Anxiety: Natural environments have a calming effect on the nervous system, which can lower anxiety levels and promote feelings of safety.
  • Enhances Sleep Quality: Regular walks in nature can help regulate circadian rhythms, leading to improved sleep quality and better overall mental health.
  • Fosters Connection to the Environment: Spending time outdoors strengthens your sense of belonging and connectedness to the world, which can promote emotional well-being and resilience.
